- Hi folks,
-
- I have an old 286 (yes, I'm saving up for a 486, but I'm not quite
- there yet...) motherboard that has worked very reliably for me, even
- using Windows 3.1. At any rate, I am in desperate need for more drive
- space, so I've decided to get a 200MB IDE drive. Predictably enough,
- though, my 286 BIOS supports no such drive. The largest drive in the
- BIOS is about 100MB.
-
- Has anyone had experience with BIOS upgrade outfits? I know many
- are available, but the one place I called wanted $69 for it! At that
- price, I may as well get a new motherboard! Any suggestions would
- be appreciated. The chip set in my machine is by Suntac.
-
- The other option is for me to find someone who can burn a modified
- copy of my existing BIOS with a hard drive parameter set for my
- new drive. Any comments on this? Anyone out there have the equipment
- to do it easily?
-
- My apologies for discussing such outdated equipment, but I am a
- poor student...
-
- Thanks. Please reply by EMAIL, since I rarely have time to sift
- through this newsgroup.
