-
- you may want to try several variations of these commands --
-
- echo.|date|find "Current"
- echo.|time|find "Current"
-
- I can't remember where I found that little trick, but it works great.
- The idea is to find something unique that is on the first line, but not
- on the second line, when you type DATE or TIME at the system prompt.
-
- By the way, I noticed you are at NRL and just MAY have an old Zenith.
- On a Zenith just put RTCLOCK in your batch file and it will output date
- & time.
-
- Another option is to use a public domain utility -- TifaWARE DAT,
- v1.3a, 08/28/90, by George A. Theall, GTHEALL@PENNDRLS.UPENN.EDU (ARPA
- Internet). The utility displays the current date and time and an
- optional message on ONE LINE (above technique requires two lines). It
- is available on SIMTEL20 as:
-
- Directory PD1:<MSDOS.BATUTL>
- DAT13.ZIP B 11535 901118 Display date and time for program logging
-
- From its documentation file:
- "DAT is a simple assembly language utility to display the current
- date and/or time preceeded by an optional message. Its output can be
- easily redirected to a file so a log can be kept of program or system
- usage."

-
- The only difference between a 720 Kb disk and a 1.44 Mb disk is a

-
- As far as the formatting ability of your computer, it is very

-
- I don't know if this is going to work at all. It seems as though you
- have the memory overhead of Windows plus two DOS sessions that cannot
- (or at least should not) be swapped out and WordPerfect (DOS or
- Windows?). Since it sounds as though you need 386 Enhanced mode, and
- this mode of Windows needs 640K + 1MB to run, so I think by the time
- you take out a couple of DOS sessions there is nothing left. If these
- were Windows apps, switching to Standard mode might do it for you, but
- DOS apps won't like that.
-
- Sounds like time to buy more memory. Here we had trouble getting
- WordPerfect for Windows and Lotus for Windows to run in 6MB of RAM
- together. (Those programs are memory hogs, but the latest releases be
- a bit better.)

- Hi to all, folks !
-
- First of all, don't be confused. I come from Madrid, Spain, and my

- I'm speaking of the spanish translation of Ray Duncan's Programmer's
- Quick Reference for the IBM ROM BIOS. - By the way, how must does it
- cost in the States? -
-
- Int 13H, function 5 is said to take the sectors per track from the DPT
- pointed at by INT vector 1EH. The sad experience is that this will
- never work. AL has to hold this number.
-
- Now a question. I own an ACER 1100 386DX computer. When trying to use
- my own DPT to set the CP/M fill byte 0E5H, it will refuse and
- obstinately write the 'damned 0f6H for DOS'. Is it my computer or are
- there other people who have experienced the same trouble?
-
- The sequence I use to format is :
-
- 1) INT 13H Function 18H to define media type. As a result, ES:DI points
- at a DPT I fetch and copy into my programs own workspace.
-
- 2) Redirect INT 1EH to point at my copy of the DPT.
-
- 3) Change the fill byte DPT[8] to 0E5H
-
- 4) Perform the format loop for both sides and the 40 tracks
-
- I'm trying to make a program formating CP/M86 DSDD disks to use the
- worderful ZSIM by J|rgen Weber but both the program he gives and my own
- fail in formating usable disks for the system.
