  20. I found this thing extremely offensive, but that has nothing to do with
  21. the graphics, which were kind of entertaining.  (Good work to cram so
  22. much into so few pixels, Glu.)  It has to do with Lutz Vieweg's lazy
  23. programming style, which caused my '48 to lock up when I tried to figure
  24. out how this picture compression thing worked, and it deleted the entire
  25. "null" directory, with alarms and user key assignments, and made it
  26. impossible for me to add new alarms or user key assignments: the '48
  27. cleared memory when I tried to re-install user key assignments (STOK).

  29. This is the third time I have to restore from backups, all of them after
  30. I've used a program written by Lutz Vieweg, all of which did incredibly
  31. stupid things to completely unrelated parts of the system.  I'm not
  32. happy with this, of course, and I'm not going to use software written by
  33. Lutz Vieweg for the next decade or so, or until somebody can give some
  34. evidence of his improving his programming style to include sanity checks
  35. on arguments and input, so as not to blow up the system on bad input.

  37. If you don't heed this advice, please heed another: always take a full
  38. backup before you download Lutz Vieweg code to your '48.  Think of it as
  39. safe sex.
