- This generally isn't much of a problem. The only processes that get
- inconvenienced in a major way are user processes, since the last 10%
- of disk space in a filesystem is reserved for root only. So when a
- filesystem is "full", there's usually still some emergency room left
- for root to use for a while. Of course, putting user data on the
- root partition is just asking for trouble. We generally have one
- disk that holds all of the OS and applications and stuff, and a
- separate disk (and, thus, a separate partition) for user data.

- This seems like a big waste of disk space. We just keep all of our
- systems more or less alike, and when a disk crashes, we just take it
- over to the one next to it, dd the entire disk, make a few minor
- adjustments, and we're back in business. For user data, we restore
- from our backups.

- I'd still like to see partitions (I don't think they can "put back" what
- has never been there...) even though I don't think I'd use them much.
- I'd much rather have a capability that I don't need (yet!) than not
- have it and find that I really do need it.
