- I have a trial network running, It consists of two PC's running Sun's PCNFS
- package & two HP 720 servers.
-
- The problem is with NFS file locking: Both PC's can edit the same remote file
- on the server. I have the lock daemon running on the HP & I mount the remote
- drives on the PC's using the "use lock manager" option.
-
- In theory, when a file is opened it should be locked to that the second PC
- cannot open it.
-
- For the record, I have used various wordstar-compatible editors & a version of
- vi from the MKS toolkit. Also, I am running msdos5.0 & PCNFS4.0 on the PC &
- HP-UX8.07 on the HP's
-
- I have asked HP support, & they say the locking must be initiated on the
- client, so the problem is with PCNFS.
-
- I have asked Sun support, & they say that lockd on the HP doesn't support the
- lock requests from PCNFS.
-
- So, if anyone (particularly Sun or HP) have a SOLUTION to this problem,
- I would like to know.
-
- I don't like buck-passing, particularly when I am caught in the middle.
-
- Please reply by email if you can. I will post a summary if I get many replys.
