  14. I'm posting this for a co-worker that knows more about it than I do:

  16. Has anybody had a problem using RCS on an HP9000/700 over NFS?

  18. We have RCS version 5.6 on our HP-9000 Series 700.
  19. The automatic configuration figured out that we had NFS
  20. (it #defined's has_NFS 1)
  21.  
  22. It works fine as long as the RCS directory is on the same 
  23. machine as the current directory.  However, if the RCS
  24. directory is a symbolic link to another directory which
  25. happens to be on another machine, any attempt to check out
  26. a file causes the HP to "panic" and reboot itself.  This
  27. is rather disconcerting, especially to whoever happens to 
  28. be sitting at the console when it happens.  Here's an example:

  30.     mount coffee:/home /hosts/coffee/home
  31.  
  32.     cd /home/me/work
  33.     ln -s /hosts/coffee/home/me/work/RCS RCS
  34.     co test.c
  35.     **BOOM!**
  36.  
  37. I also tried
  38.  
  39.     mount coffee:/home/me/work/RCS /home/me/work/RCS
  40.  
  41. to verify that it was just the NFS link causing the problem and this
  42. died too.  Having just a symbolic link to somewhere else on the local
  43. machine worked.
