- I'm posting this for a co-worker that knows more about it than I do:
-
- Has anybody had a problem using RCS on an HP9000/700 over NFS?
-
- We have RCS version 5.6 on our HP-9000 Series 700.
- The automatic configuration figured out that we had NFS
- (it #defined's has_NFS 1)
-
- It works fine as long as the RCS directory is on the same
- machine as the current directory. However, if the RCS
- directory is a symbolic link to another directory which
- happens to be on another machine, any attempt to check out
- a file causes the HP to "panic" and reboot itself. This
- is rather disconcerting, especially to whoever happens to
- be sitting at the console when it happens. Here's an example:
-
- mount coffee:/home /hosts/coffee/home
-
- cd /home/me/work
- ln -s /hosts/coffee/home/me/work/RCS RCS
- co test.c
- **BOOM!**
-
- I also tried
-
- mount coffee:/home/me/work/RCS /home/me/work/RCS
-
- to verify that it was just the NFS link causing the problem and this
- died too. Having just a symbolic link to somewhere else on the local
- machine worked.
-
- If anybody has a solution, please let me know.
-
- I don't read news much during the summer, so please email any
- responses to bvh@cse.unl.edu (129.93.1.12).
- I'll try to check this news group again in a week or so just in case.
