- The other day I submitted a comparison between the HP48 and the TI85.
- In addition I included some general information on the TI85.
- Well I made a couple...er...few....OK!...I made several errors.
- So I was brain dead at the time I wrote it up. Sue me! I have nothing
- anyways. :^)
-
- I also included a few additions which can be found after the corrections.
-
- Sorry for the errors.

- CORRECTIONS
-
- Character Strings
- =================
-
- >The TI85 only supports the commands which finds the size of a string,
- >substitutes a portion of a string, and conversion of an equation to a
- >string and visa versa.
-
- Instead of "substitutes a portion of a string" it should read "extracts
- a portion of a string"
-
-
-
- Hyperbolic and Logarithmic Functions
- =====================================
- >Both machines support the standard hyperbolic and logarithmic functions.
- >The HP48 supports additional commands which are not on the TI85.
- >These are: ACOSH, ASINH, ATANH, EXPM, and LNP1
-
- The commands which the HP48 supports over the TI85 are EXPM and LNP1.
-
- Matrices
- ========
- >The TI85 has *ALL* of the capabilities of the HP48 *PLUS* quite a bit more.
- >A limitation on the TI85: largest matrix can be 256X256.
-
- The TI85 cannot create a 256X256 matrix. The largest square matrix the
- TI85 can create is 30X30. I misread the manual although it was a bit
- ambiguous. :^)

-
- Statistics and Probability
- ==========================
- >The HP48 has the following features over the TI85:
- >
- >Curve fitting for linear, logarithmic, power, and exponential statistical
- >models.
- >
- During my initial look at the manual I missed this but...
- The TI85 can perform regression analysis with 7 models. These models are:
- linear, logarithmic, power, exponential, 2nd, 3rd and 4th order polynomial
- models.
-
-
- Misc
- ====
- >The TI85 does not have the commands CEIL and FLOOR.
-
- It does have a CEIL command called "max" but doesn't have
- a FLOOR command equivalent.
-
- =======================================================================
- Additions:
- =======================================================================
-
- Number range
- ============
- +/minus 9.99999999999 E 999
-
- Computer Math
- =============
-
- Number range between bases:
- binary : +/minus 32767
- octal : +/minus 99,999,999,999,999
- hex : +/minus 99,999,999,999,999
-
-
- Plotting and Graphing
- =====================
- >The TI85 plots a bit faster than the HP48.
-
- The TI85 is much faster than the HP48; especially when it comes to
- shading a section of the graph. It is very fast at shading and is
- easy to do also.
-
-
- Misc
- ====
- Regarding using list within algebraic equations. This feature is
- very nice. It is not limited to just the graphing environment.
- You can perform any mathematical function on a list of numbers
- (ie: e^ { 3, 5, 21, 99 } )
-

- Again sorry for the errors.
