- I am posting this for my husband. Please respond directly to him.
-
- I have two problems.
-
- The first is that I have a number of Macs on a localtalk connected to
- a Gator box. The Gator box connects to a network of Suns and MicroVaxen.
- Currently the Macs connect to the microVaxen through the serial port using
- White Knight as a terminal emulator. This has limited throughput and also
- limits the users to the DecNet systems. I would like to replace the
- serial connections with something that will let the Macs talk to both the
- MicroVaxen and Suns.
-
- The best solution (I think) would be something that would let the MicroVaxen
- talk TCP/IP. Then I could use NCSA Telnet to contact both the Suns and
- the MicroVaxen. Failing that, something that would let the Macs talk
- LAT would work, but they should still have a method to talk TCP/IP.
-
- The second problem is that one of the MicroVaxen has a Dataproducts line
- printer on it connected via a parallel cable. We want to move the printer
- physically away from the MicroVax, further than most parallel cables will
- go. Is there any thing we can do to locate it far away and use the network?
-
- Our DecRep suggested using a Decserver 250 with parallel ports, but I think
- that will be too expensive. Any suggestions?
