- Off the top of my head.
-
- o The Model 100s put the CPU on a daughter card. This makes it
- easy to upgrade the CPU and keep everything else the same.
- For example there are Models 120, 125 and 133.
-
- o The Model 120 is an R3000 (maybe A) that runs at 20 MHz. The
- 125 runs at 25 MHz and so on.
-
- o The Model 120 and family use parity memory. You can use the
- same memory modules as are used on the DECstation 3100 and
- 2100 (MS01-AA) or a higher capacity module (MS01-CA).
-
- o The TURBOchannel on the 100 series runs at half the speed of
- the TURBOchannel on the 200.
-
- o The 100 series has space inside the system enclosure for some
- SCSI devices. The 200 doesn't.
-
- o At the same clock speed I believe the 200 is faster. Probably
- due to different memory subsystems.
-
- o I believe the built-in SCSI adapter on the 100 series supports
- DMA transfers. This ended up being less expensive than the one
- on the 200. Of course it's still on that half speed TUROBchannel.
-
- o They use a different serial line interface. Thus switching a
- system disk between the two require remaking the special device
- files for the mouse and serial tty lines.
-
- o The Model 120 will cost less than a model 200, for an otherwise
- comparible system (same amount of memory and disk space).
