- We at the "Stacken" - that's the computer club here, have an old
- masscomp running RTU 4.0A, too. As everything else, it's long out
- of contract. It's a 5600 with 1 CPU, 8 ttys and sadly no ethernet
- at all. So if someone has a surplus supply of EXOS boards - drop
- me a mail, too :-)
-
- Our 5600 has only been up a month, after a long time of "hardware
- failure". It just indicated "cache memory write error" at boot up.
- Finally after deciding that powercycling didn't help, I decided
- that it couldn't get worse and pulled the CPU-board out. Then I
- firmly pushed in each chip in its socket. After that "exercise"
- the machine booted without problems. You may "exercise" your EXOS
- in the same way. (Heat movement makes chips creep up and out of
- their sockets.)
-
- Because of its commercial past our masscomp had just the bare
- RTU 4.0A - in the last weeks I installed emacs, bash, gnutar
- and I'm still struggling with tcsh (The SIGCHLD semantics seem
- to be somewhere between SYSV.III and BSD4.1).
-
- In the next months I hope to get it up on the net. Can be slip,
- can be an old 3Com bord (from a SUN2). What are my odds :-?
-
- Good luck with your 5500, I hope to introduce our 5600 as
- maggot.stacken.kth.se to the net soon.
