- If you're thinking about a very cheap solution which just pumps up the 68000 to
- 16 MHz without any cache, the speed up will by just a little. You can get 10%
- or something like that. If you would buy a speeder board with cache (16kB), the
- performance will increase by 70%, depending on the application.
-
- w>Is it worth coughing up more cash for a 25Mhz or even faster?
- No, i don't think so. In this case i would think about a new computer (a TT
- oder the new Falcon030). In both cases you would have enhanced resolutions
- anyway.
-
- w>Regarding Overscan, does it slow down the computer significantly when
- w>it's running?
- Because the screen memory is a bit larger it slows down the computer a bit, but
- not significantly.

- w>There's also a hardware kit over here in the UK called the "Autoswitch
- w>Overscan" which (I think) fits into the monitor (Hi res) and costs 50 UK
- w>pounds-
- AutoSwitch OverScan is an improved version of OverScan with much better
- software and a better hardware. It's built in the computer (not the monitor)
- and improves all resolutions. The developers are the same as for the original
- PD-Overscan so they know what they're doing. The autoswitch means that the
- software can switch from the enhanced overscan resolution (e.g. 708*480) back
- to 640*400 if the current software doesn't work fine with the higher
- resolution. And it switches back to the enhanced resolution after the program
- finishes.
-
- w>Compatibility
- I just can talk about the compatibility of AS-Overscan because i've never got
- an 16Mhz board. The compatibility is very high because you activate the
- Overscan resolutions in the auto folder and because of the autoswitch feature
- (see above). Games with autostart are no problem because without the overscan
- software you've got a normal ST.
