- The discussions on fast modems have me wondering....
-
- In a previous posting I mentioned that I set up a BBS on a PC for the
- simple reason that it was cheaper to do so.
-
- That BBS uses a ZyXEL modem ( Sysop deal, so I should mention it ) which
- is capable of 14,400 uncompressed. It will literally scream along at
- 56000 bits per second on uncompressed files, and is capable of going
- faster ( it has a couple of higher speeds talking to another ZyXEL ).
-
- On the horizon I see glimpses of modems which are capable of 28,000bps
- *uncompressed*! I hesitate to think what they'll be capable of doing when
- compression kicks in......
-
- Question time...
-
- 1: What defines a 'fast modem'
- 2: Will the new Atari machines ( Falcon et al ) be able to keep up with
- these sort of speeds?
- 3: How long before 2400bps modems are relics of history?
