- Thanks for that positive remark about Gemulator. They're quite rare
- here on the net. <grin> But interest in ST emulation is picking up.
-
- I just thought I'd update you on what's been happening with it. First of
- all, there is now a distributor for Gemulator, and they are already taking
- orders. As I said many months ago, I would not be involved in the actual
- distribution of Gemulator to avoid any problems I experienced with Quick ST,
- mainly in the area of shipping product on time and supporting customers. PMC
- in Bellevue, WA is the distributor and look for a press release from them
- very shortly. If you already pre-ordered you'll be receiving a letter from them.
-
- This weekend at the Atari show in Hartford, CT will be the last demo of
- Gemulator prior to its release next month at the Glendale show. You will
- be able to place orders at the show at the introductory price. The 1/2
- price introductory offer has been changed slightly, in that TOS 2.06 ROMs
- are now included and pre-installed on every Gemulator board. Of course, there
- are still 6 empty sockets to plug in other TOS versions. The new intro price
- for Gemulator + TOS 2.06 is $279, $20 less that before. Pre-installing TOS
- ROMs will insure that a) you can just plug in and use Gemulator, b) you don't
- have to muss with plugging in TOS ROMs, or finding TOS ROMs for that matter,
- and c) it allowed me to make a very large purchase of TOS 2.06 ROMs and
- lower the price!
-
- Gemulator has also been reduced in size and sped up by between 10% and 40%
- since last shown at the Indianapolis show last month. It can now run on
- a 6 meg PC (instead of an 8 meg PC) directly, or on a 4 meg PC when you use
- virtual memory. Virtual memory slows down the program somewhat, but there is
- simply no way to cram DOS, device drivers, the Gemulator code, 256K of TOS
- ROM code, and 2 meg of Atari ST memory into a 4 meg PC. You need 6 meg. And
- yes, it will run on a 386SX all the way up to a 486/50. On a 486/33 it's
- running slightly faster than a 8 Mhz ST, on a 486/50 it runs almost as fast
- as a 16 Mhz ST, and on a 386/33 it runs at half the speed of an ST.
-
- Current Notes and other U.S., U.K., and German magazines currently all have
- Gemulator in their hands right now and are reviewing it. Look for the first
- review of it in the September issue of Current Notes. (Of course, by then,
- you will miss the introductory offer, but PMC is running a special of their
- own until the end of September).
-
- If you have any further questions about Gemulator, please call PMC at
- 206-747-1519. To place an order, order a newsletter, order a demo video, etc.
- Don't call BraSoft because I will just have to refer you to them. :-)
