- I have an ancient 1040STF. It dates back to 1986, and I have
- not made any upgrades or hardware modifications. I am considering
- upgrading my 1040 or getting a Mega STe. However, I'm not really sure
- what I should get to upgrade in order to compare the price of upgrading
- or a Mega. Is the blitter chip very useful? Do many programs utilize
- it? Currently, I use telecommunication, spreadsheet, word processing,
- and light dtp applications. If the blitter is useful, can I even put
- one in my 1040? And where could I buy one? Could I install it myself?
- (meaning little or no soldering) How much would it cost? Would an
- AdSpeed ST be more effective than a blitter. (In all likelihood, I'd
- get a Mega STe before putting an AdSpeed in the 1040, but I'm just
- curious about how and what these things do).
-
- Feel free to email me any tips, suggestions, or advice you think
- might pertain to my situation. I also plan on upgrading to 2.5M RAM and
- installing a newer version of TOS. Someday I hope to get a hard disk,
- but I don't know if I can afford it at this time. Maybe it would it be
- better to just get the Mega w/HD all at once? Thanks, any help will be
- appreciated.
