- How many people use the <C>olor <G>raphics <S>ystem upgrade for BobTerm?
- To ME it felt like quite a bit of work setting the thing up, especially
- since I no longer use Atari DOS 2.5, which is to my knowlege, about the
- only version of DOS on the Atari (other than perhaps its "compatible"
- DOSes, like SuperDOS) that allows numbers to be the first character of a
- file name. The instructions explained how to go about fixing MyDOS to
- use numbers in filenames (all the fonts it uses are numbered from "0.0"
- to "9.9".) >I< say why not just rename them to "F0.0" through "F9.9"?!
- Rather than going through all the hassle of patching the DOS for this one
- specific program. I'm not sure the fix was even 100% compatible with my
- version of MyDOS (the 4-digit sector count one).
- Another big let down was the need to install a RAMDisk (which I NEVER foo
- with any more because I STILL only have 48k!!). Why not just have a file
- called "FONTS.DAT" and have it load up and then the program can just
- point around in it, rather than going through the trouble of setting up a
- RAMDisk.
- And FINALLY, yet ANOTHER let down is the fonts. Call me one using a
- 1200xl (which supposedly has bad video output) on a 13" SONY TV (which I
- suppose in comparison to a good ol' monitor REALLY sucks), but to me
- those fonts weren't anything special. >I< think the entire program
- should be graphics screen oriented (MAYbe a little text window or
- something) so all the fonts can be mixed, rather than when a new font is
- selected, the entire screen changes. If a routine much like "TEXT" in
- TurboBASIC XL, or even just a byte copier (which means you can only place
- the characters in 40 positions across the screen, rather than 320 like
- with "TEXT") was added, you'd barely even have a need for the text
- window!
-
- Anyways...these are just my ideas. I don't even know of a CGS supporting
- BBS to call ANYWHERE. (Well, sure I have a few numbers in the manual, but
- I have NO idea where they are. Either that, or they're on the Eastern
- half of the country...) Are there any CGS boards in any of these area
- codes:?

-
- 415
- 510
- 707
- 408
-
- ???
- If so, PLEASE give me the number so I can try this out and give it a
- second chance. For now I just live with ASCII and the occasional b/w
- ANSI.
-
- Thanx. (To tell you the truth, now that I've got Quick (IF I can
- get it to WORK!!), I might just try making my OWN
- version of CGS.. Who knows!? Oh, BTW: BobTerm was
- written in Action!, wasn't it???)
