- Having recently (FINALLY!) joined the //gs community by acquiring a used
- GS, I have a question or two that I'd like answered. My main concern
- right now is that the system I bought came with both an AppleDisk 3.5 and
- a UniDisk 3.5. The drives LOOK virtually identical externally (save for the
- different case colors), but they sure as heck get treated differently. My
- complaint is that the finder (and other finder related programs) apparently
- poll the drives continuously, I guess looking for a new disk inserted or
- something. The result is that the access light on the Unidisk is continually
- flashing, accompanied by an annoying "tick.tick.tick.tick.tick" This has the
- effect of not only being extremely annoying to listen to/look at, but also
- causes jerky reaction to certain desktop applications which may be doing
- animation, etc. (Such as a couple of game NDA's I have..) Beyond that, I'm
- also concerned about the wear and tear it's causing on the drive itself. Is
- there any neat solution? I assume the driver could be patched, but I dunno
- if that's the solution I'm looking for. I don't particularly wanna get
- another drive either. Any information would be appreciated.
-
- (All my other troubles I'll keep to myself for the time being since I can
- probably manage to figger 'em out for myself, or find someone local who
- can help.)
-
- Thanx,
- Michael Foegelle
