- OK, I want to upgrade my Zip, just like a lot of the other people here
- have been asking, but noone seems to have posted a step by step for the
- "mechanically inclined but uninformed." What I'd like to know is what
- each of the items on my Zip is, and it's supposed function, and what is
- going to be replaced. (And also a good reccomendation for where to buy
- the parts, and how much it will cost. Microprocessors Unlimited I believe
- I've been sent to before, are they still currently the best? Do they
- carry the Sanyo chips? What part numbers should I ask for for the Sanyo's
- and some fast memory to go with it, and whatever else I need...?)
-
- From what I can tell, I have the revision 1.02 board without any upgrades.
- Yes, this is one of the "cheap" Zips with no upgrades on it (yet). From
- what I understand, *any* of the boards can be upgraded though. Correct?
-
- One other question I have is what exactly is the split cache upgrade, and
- what will it do for me. Yes, I understand the concept of why cache memory
- is used and desireable, but why a spilt-cache? GNO?
-
- A little background so I don't end up with anything that is conflicting
- in my system, I have a Rom03, 20Meg Vulcan, Sonic Blaster, Zip 8/8,
- AST VisionPlus, and a VOC. I also have a half full GS Ram+ for a total
- of 4 meg on board. Any speed problems with any of these?
-
- Thanks in advance!
