- Well, legal aspects aside, do you have any idea how big a proposition this
- would end up being? Admittedly NT is being designed with portability in
- mind across present Intel, and future RISC flatforms, but there's no real
- public indication at this point that it will ever get moved to the 680x0
- line.
-
- And trying to glue the NT API on top of AmigaOS would be pretty counter-
- productive, compared to building an Amiga/680x0 native NT port.
-
- It's a nice thought, sort of... but not very practical. The addition
- of an integrated virtual memory system to the current Amiga OS, along
- with fully retargetable graphics support, an attempt at device independent
- audio (although this is less important at the moment than the graphics),
- and maybe memory protection (although there are some arguments against
- it, that appear here from time to time) seem much more sensible at this
- point in time than call conversion kludges. Especially considering that
- there will be a fair number of NT OS functions that aren't really present
- in the current Amiga OS.
-
- I remember reading at some point in the past that a vendor of 680x0 based
- workstations had been contacted about possible NT porting but shown very
- little interesting. Of course this came out of a rumors column, so take
- it with a grain of salt.
-
- BTW, everything in this message is my own babbling and has nothing to do
- with Microsoft, its policies, its groundskeepers, its cafeterias, its plans,
- etc., and blah blah blah.
