- I apologize in advance for asking this question in this section but I have
- access to no other areas that seem more appropriate... please forgive the
- bandwidth and reply via email. My question is... can I use a 230 watt IBM
- power supply to power an A3000 motherboard and multiple drives with the
- whole system transported to an IBM PC type tower case? I love my A3000 but
- do not have enough drive bays for the SCSI CDROM drive and tape backup unit
- I plan to add soon. A tower case offers no more slots but does offer
- sufficient internal expansion for my needs. If I could have afforded an
- A3000T, I would have bought it, so that option is not open to me. I
- understand that the PC power supply produces clean power at the appropriate
- amp/volt amounts but that a "tick" signal is needed. This is supposed to
- be a 60 Hz clock timer of some sort. Where does this come from and how is
- it created? The A3000's power supply is only 135 watts and that is very
- minimal for the expansions planned. A bigger power supply is definitely
- needed as it is for anyone adding an 040 card, lots of ram, more drives, a
- Toaster, TBCs, etc. Thanks for any and all emailed replies,
-
