Your terminal emulator doesn't have to support 14.4 to get the Supra Modem to work! You set your terminal emulator to the fastest setting, usually 57.6k (although the Amiga really can't handle it), then you let the Supra negotiate which baud rate it will talk to the other modem at. In otherwords, the Amiga and the Supra always talk at <the maximum baud rate you set in your terminal emulator), and the Supra will talk to the other modem at whatever rate it can get. l they refer to these two speeds. The speed at which the modem talks to the Amiga is the DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) speed. The rate that Supra talks to the other modem is the DCE (Data Communications equipment) speed. Look in the glossary and in the discussion of the W command (as in ATW). For instance:
ATW is the default and reports the DTC (computer) speed. So if you're terminal emulator is set to 57.6K and you connect the remote modem a 1200 baud, you'll get a "CONNECT 57600" message.
ATW1 is the most useful setting because it indicates all of the information. Again, if your terminal emulator is set to 57.6K and you get a 14.4K baud connection to the other modem with LAPM error correction, you'll see the following displayed to your screen:
