- I now own a GVP G-Force 040 with 2Megs RAM, and placed it in my
- 16MHz A3000 (w/2Megs-Chip and 4Megs-Fast RAM), and got it to boot up. I
- applied the GForcePatch program which disables DMA on all DMA devices by
- masking something-or-other.
-
- When I boot, the system comes up fine, but during use of the
- computer, it will crash quite frequently. "CED" and "mset" seem to be
- able to crash it consistantly, but other programs will crash the system
- too. The GURUs vary, but some are "8000 0004", "8000 0013", etc. The
- memory locations all seem to start with 8000...., which I guess is the
- super-fast RAM on the G-Force board. I've noticed that the system is
- slight more reliable if I move the "GVPCpuCtrl FASTROM" line to the
- *very* end of my User-Startup, after everything else has happened, and
- in this case, there is not enough of that fast RAM to move the ROM up
- there, as a warning message so politely tells me.
-
- Does anybody have any idea why the system is so flakey? GVP
- doesn't seem to have a clue... they want to ship me a new version of
- 68040.library, but I already have 37.2, which I hear is the latest.
-
- Here is the start of my Startup-Sequence (from memory):
-
- setpatch > nil:
- version
- GVPCpuCtrl FASTROM
- CPU CACHE
-
- I have tried all combinations of "CPU..." I can think of,
- disabling everything and enabling everything, with no differences.
-
- Here are the versions of system chips:
-
- RAMSEY: $D
- GARY: $0
- DMAC: OLD
- BUSTER: I dunno.
-
- I installed the 2.04 ROMS that came with the G-Force '040 board.
-
- ANY HELP would be appreciated, as I now have to boot in 16MHz
- '030 mode, which is frustrating when I have a 28MHz '040 under the hood.
-
- E-Mail replies would be great! THANKS OODLES in advance!!!
