My system includes the following:
Amiga 2500 w/ 2 megs of 32 bit memory.
Nexus HD controller w/ 4 megs 16 bit memory.
USR HST 14.4
I am running a board using everybodies favorite..Ami-Express..
Anyways, when people are downloading, there is not that much slowdown (but
with an 030, should there be hardly any?) The problem is, when people are uploading, I can't do sh*t without majorly causing probs with their upload. When I
mean something, I mean I can't even use SID to view a text file with a text
veiwer without causing some errors. Now, I know people running 2 and 3 nodes
off of simularly equiped systems. And that is what I wanna do, except, I
can't visualize my system handling it. Even with Jr-Comm, if I am
Dl'ing at 2400 baud, I am busy doing things in the background, editing text,
un-arcing files etc. And I look back to see I have 19 errors and a cps of 180!
Now, I think my 68000 could have done that. After thinking it over, I have
come to the conclusion that the root of my problem must be that I need more
32 bit ram. After booting up, and loadig SID 2.0, the kickstart image, etc..
almost all or all of the 32 bit ram is gone.
So my question is, is this the problem or not? Btw, I am using a quantum 105
as my boot drive, and they are really fast, so I don't think that could have
anything to do with it. I am almost positive, I am not running anything that
takes major CPU time. And I normally get 1650 ul's and dl's using jr-comm,
and on the bbs. Just as long as I don't screw around or they are only dl'ing
not uploading. Please hurry.. my DUAL 16.8 well be here soon!! Thanks.
Oh, one last question: Is it the universal agreement that the pp dual serial
board has some driver problems, and takes up to much CPU time anyways? And
the commodore 8 serial port board is the best, as long as you don't
need a rate of mor ethan 19.2? The ideal solution for me, would be a board
that has 2 to 4 serial ports...with a DTE rate of 58.6 or whatever the number
and has its own proccesor to handle the data, so my CPU doesn't have to. But
I think I am out of luck right? I know the GVP one is coming soon..but
only 1 serial port and 1 parralel port or ?? I would like at least 2 serial
ports.
