  12. Well I've just sent my Quantum LPS120 drive back to get repaired/replaced for
  13. the second time.  I bought the drive from our University Computer Centre in
  14. April and since then I've had problems.  The problems occur at cold boot time,
  15. the drive seems to "think" its spun up but when AmigaDOS boots from the drive I
  16. get read (and Gackk! write errors) and the odd checksum error.  I wait for
  17. about half a minute to a minute or so, I warm boot the machine and if I'm
  18. lucky the machine will boot up without a hitch.  From then the drive seems to
  19. behave well and I have no further "phantom" errors.  This problem has occurred
  20. on both the original drive and the replacement.  Last night things came to a
  21. head and the drive seemed to munge things severely.  These reported read/write
  22. errors do not physically exist on disk - I've checked a number of times...

  24. BTW, my hardware setup -:
  25. Amiga B2000/1 MB Agnus/Std. Denise
  26. Microbotics 8UP! Memory board popl. to 2MB
  27. Microbotics HardFrame SCSI controller with v1.9 Driver ROMs (latest version
  28. from what I know).

  30. Strangely enough, the drive that was going to be replaced by the Quantum
  31. currently being returned/serviced is being used in my machine right now - 
  32. guess what sort of drive it is...  a Seagate 8^)

  34. Are these types of problems commonplace with the LPS drives or am I just plain
  35. unlucky in this case.  Can anyone share any similar experiences...   Thanks
