- I recently bought the Stand Alone version of the Supra V.32bis modem. I seem
- to be having problems with data compression. MNP5 and BTLZ don't seem to be
- doing anything. I'm using an Amiga 3000 and term2.2b.
-
- When I logon to Compuserve:
- Term is set at 57,600 baud and RTS/CTS handshaking.
- Modem is set to factory default F2.
- I connect at 9600 baud with LAPM and BTLZ. Everything seems to work fine.
-
- If I turn off Data Compression (AT%C) I connect at 9600 baud with LAPM
- only. The speed is the same as with BTLZ.
-
- If I set the modem to normal mode (AT\N) I connect at 9600 baud, no LAPM or
- BTLZ. Speed is the same.
-
- When I logon to the Universities HP-UX system:
- Term is set at 57,600 baud and RTS/CTS handshaking.
- Modem is set to factory default F2.
- I connect at 2400 baud with MNP5. Text is displayed in short bursts but
- with a 2400baud throughput.
-
- If I turn off Data Compression (AT%C) I connect at 2400 baud with MNP4.
- Text is displayed in short bursts but with a 2400baud throughput.
-
- If I set the modem to normal mode (AT\N) I connect at 2400 baud, no MNP
- Text is displayed smoothly with a 2400 baud throughput.
-
- If I set Term to 2400 baud and RTS/CTS handshaking.
- All modes, with and without error checking and data compression, display
- text smoothly at a 2400 baud throughput.
-
- I have not experienced any loss of data in any situation. I have downloaded
- binary files from BIX and Compuserve with no problems. However, I can only
- download binary files from my University when MNP error correction and data
- compression are off. Could it be that my cable doesn't support hardware
- handshaking? If it doesn't would my modem work at all? What are the proper
- pinouts for a hardware handshaking cable?
-
- Thanks in advance,
