- Well, the idea of starting only one emacs per session might warrent
- more serious consideration than you've given it! That's what I do.
- I run GNU emacs as my main editor both on my Unix workstation and
- my Amiga. I start one up and leave it running. Aside from the small
- memory leak you've mentioned, the trouble is that GNU emacs accrues a
- lot of state after a while. I end up with lots of buffers loaded,
- maybe some non-default ELISP libs loaded, minibuffer history, and lord
- knows what else. It is a pain to loose all that, so I just keep the
- emacs running all the time. That way, you also don't have to pay the
- startup overhead each time either. Initial Amiga GNU emacs ports were
- not really stable enough to do this, but David Gay's latest port has
- not caused my any problems yet (although there are a few things which
- don't work).
