  15. [Sorry, but i'm a bit busy at the moment. Suggestions for changes and updates
  16. are still being accepted and archived, and will be incorporated in the list
  17. when i have time. This list is still up-to-date up to about May 1992.
  18. I'm considering to change this list into an "Acorn resources on the Internet"
  19. listing (won't be many additions, i think), when i get the time to update it,

  23.   This is the regular list of archive servers that contain files related in
  24. any way to Acorn computers, i.e. the Atom, BBC, Electron, Archimedes and
  25. R-series, and maybe some even rarer types of machines. Mainly it's about the
  26. Archimedes and R-series, though.
  27. This list is maintained by Gerben Vos <gpvos@cs.vu.nl>.

  29.   For every server, the name and the type of files it contains is indicated,
  30. along with its numeric address in the case of Internet ftp servers and Janet
  31. pads, and the email address of the maintainer, if known.
  32.   Below that follows a list of the directories to look for with a short
  33. description of their contents. The Newcastle server is an exception to this
  34. rule, since it has only one big flat directory.
  35.  
  36.   Below the main list is a short list of ways to use services that aren't
  37. normally available to you, e.g. Internet ftp from Bitnet or Janet, and Janet
  38. connection from the Internet. Don't abuse these inter-network connection
  39. services, they are already being heavily used and someone might decide they're
  40. too overloaded and shut them down.
  41.  
  42.   Also, when requesting files directly from servers, always try to use a
  43. server that is as near as possible to you. And keep in mind that the people
  44. running these machines are doing you a favour, so don't abuse their services.
  45. The mail server in Newcastle is being swamped by requests at the moment. Use
  46. an alternative, if possible.

  230.   Don't be fooled by the short listing of this archive; it has been a close
  231.   companion to the Acorn newsgroups for many years and often has the latest
  232.   versions. It contains public domain software for ARM based systems
  233.   (Archimedes, A3000, Rxxx etc), mainly put together from Usenet postings and
  234.   private submissions.
  235.  
  236.   The info server is currently in danger of falling victim to its own
  237.   popularity (it's mailing out over a gigabyte per month at the moment).

  251.   header, specifying your e-mail address (or edit your From: line). If that
  252.   doesn't work, try specifying the domain part of your address in reverse
  253.   order (e.g., gpvos@nl.vu.cs), or route it via a major Internet backbone,
  254.   (e.g., gpvos%cs.vu.nl@mcsun.eu.net). Mailers in the UK generally get
  255.   confused by addresses starting with "cs", which they think means
  256.   "Czechoslovakia", but this can happen with any address which has a top level

  297. If you can't use Internet ftp, there are servers which can do it for you.
