-
- I did this fix to one of my 7300's a while back.
-
- All you need to do is replace a capacitor. The exact instructions are in
- the FAQ, which will do a better job at explaining it than I can. You need
- a 4.7 uf ESR (Equivalent series resistance) non-polarized capacitor to replace
- the one in C411 in the monitor.
-
- Getting the monitor open was a real pain for me, especially the two
- recessed screws in the front of the bottom of the monitor. Does Mr. Fantastic
- or Elastic Lad work in the 7300 factory? I ended up removing the swivel
- base of the monitor and now I can't get the said screws back on. I have
- a S-screwdriver and a dental mirror but that's not much of a help.
-
- I found that one needs a big soldering iron to desolder the faulty
- capacitor. A 30 watt pencil doesn't do diddly, but a $10 100 watt
- soldering gun from Radio Shack works fine. I think others have more
- elegant solutions but this was the cheapest for me.
-
- Also- I have had trouble finding a 4.7 uf ESR cap, so I used an ordinary
- 4.7uf non polarized cap for power supplies. It works OK for now but I want the
- genuine part. The cap I used was much smaller than the original cap. Does
- anyone know where to get the real thing? I tried Mouser, but they don't have a
- similar product.
-
- A note of warning- the cap I used is already beginning to go after a month
- of use. The small capacitor I used may be good for a quick fix, but it
- won't last.
