- | I have a V.32bis/V.42bis modem that's locked at 19200
- |and it works quite well. I get transfer rates as high as 1700 cps. That's
- |with f protocol however. "g" protocol I get between 900 and 1100 outgoing,
- |and 800 and 900 incoming.
-
-
- Altho the range of rates I get is wider,
- I also find these rates normally attainable
- (deduct 10% on average if you're running
- 2 telebits - which is still a reasonable
- _aggregate_ throughput).

-
- |And cu drops characters like mad at 19200. So I downgrade the speed to 4800
- |or even slower for cu.
-
-
- I don't seem to see this on my system. It
- does drop characters but not maddeningly so...
-
-
- |I strongly recommend making sure that you're 3.51m before attempting 19200
- |UUCP. I had *lots* of problems with serial lockups and system crashes
- |until I switched to 3.51m. Even without the modem.
-
-
- I don't think 3.51m has much to do with it -
- I've been unable to boot it on this machine
- for frustratingly undiscoverable reasons
- (even tho it runs fine on a quite similar
- system sitting next to it). However there
- are real problems with the stock uucp (hint:
- get HDB if you don't have it!), and the cbm
- driver for the combo board needs help (I'm
- using the 3.51m version on 3.51, which works
- fine).
-
-
- Having said that, I need to point out that
- the performance of this 3.51 system is quite
- amazing for such a limited (and heavily loaded)
- resource, and it has been extremely reliable.
- I did have serial lockup problems once in a
- while, but that seems to have been fixed by
- turning off the modem's command echo & setting
- it to report results only in originate mode.
