- Some of the recent posts have discussed this in general terms, but I
- still have a few questions:
-
- We have several networks with a UNIX server and PC's running Lan
- Workplace for DOS and Beame and Whiteside NFS. Some of these
- networks also have Novell Netware running. In both cases, we can
- send DOS and UNIX print requests to the spooler on the UNIX system
- and print to a directly-attached printer - so far so good.
-
- Where Novell is used, we can also use a Novell IP product on the
- server to route UNIX output to a Netware print queue.
-
- I've heard talk on this list about sending stuff directly to a
- network attached printer from DOS and UNIX (Intel Net Port, HPIIID si
- w/ethernet card), but I fail to see how collisions would be avoided
- if there isn't a common queue either on UNIX or Netware through which
- all requests would pass. Also, what software (on UNIX and the
- net-attached PC) is used to get to the ethernet-attached printers?
-
- Any explanation would be greatly appreciated (and help me sleep
- better at night... ;-) Thanks.
