- Steve,
-
- >My question is, what is a Cisco router doing with an HP
- >proprietary MIB object?
-
- The answer is "the cisco router only neglected the illegal
- requests from HP's OV(OpenView).". One of our NOC guys told me
- that the problem occurred when he deleted a node object in OV. So,
- I guess OV tried to reset SMTP trap vector regardless of the
- object type when the delete operation was executed. Unfortunately,
- the trap reset operation has a bug which sends the SMTP request
- to the node every 0.005 second.
-
- To protect our network from the disaster, we assigned TTL value
- 999...999 to each object so that any object would not be deleted
- automatically. Of course, any object should not be deleted
- manually. FYI, our OV version is 2.0.
-
- >This is NOT an official response of Hewlett-Packard.
-
- Yes. But, I'd like to express my thanks to you.
