- hi all,
-
- i have ARCHIEd and GOPHERed around and cannot find any documents on
- general printing. i have been in search of documents that discuss
- experiences sites have had working through the myriad of printer
- access possibilities.
-
- in the last few years IBM mainframe computers have finally come to
- grips with the LPD/LPR considerations and have equipped us with the
- potential for connecting to other hosts/servers for print purposes.
- in light of the new capabilities we would like to explore the
- possibility of re-engineering our current printer scheme. my main
- concern at this point is with the appletalk entities and how
- connectivity could be best addressed.
-
- ideally, i would like to find CAP like capabilities for both VM and
- MVS but i haven't heard of any successes in this area. I would
- appreciate hearing from anyone who has had experience comparing any
- of the following as printer servers: Sun running TOPS, VAX running
- AlisaShare, whatever running CAP and Novell. issues like capacities,
- performance, reliability and functions would be important
- considerations.
-
- many thanks
-
- /pc
