  14. This is not algorithm stuff, but I thought it pertains enough to 
  15. comp.programming to post here.

  17. After witnessing a number of documents describing in (sometimes gory)
  18. detail the _shoulds_ of the definition/analysis/design/programming/testing/
  19. acceptance flow-chart ideal, it strikes me that I have never actually
  20. witnessed the details of such an ideal happen in "real life".

  22. As a consequence, what happens (at least in my corner of the world) is
  23. that many times _nothing_ approaching the suggested documents, reviews,
  24. etc. actually are produced. I believe that there must be some methodology
  25. which permits a one-person project a chance of fulfilling all the stated
  26. method requirements, as well as encouraging a multi-person project to
  27. fully and adequately state and describe the stages of the project life 
  28. cycle. Thus I turn to your experience for suggestions.

  30. What kind of documents do you require (or are required of you) ?
  31. Who produces them?
  32. Do you use document templates? What do they look like?
  33. How detailed are the detailed design specs? How long do they take to
  34. produce? Who writes them (mgr, pgmr, user-support, security guard) ?
  35. Do you have code walk-throughs/reviews? Who participates? What do
  36. you actually do? How long does it take?
  37. Etc.

  39. What I am searching for is a generalized schema which would encourage
  40. use for small one-person and huge multi-person projects. Not what
  41. SHOULD be done, but what actually IS done.

  43. OTOH, has this been discussed before, and where should I look for 
  44. the answers?
