- ----------------- PARALLEL COMPUTING RESEARCHERS ------------------

- Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratory is a rapidly expanding
- multi-program national laboratory with missions in the areas of Energy
- Research and Environmental Preservation, Remediation and Restoration.
- We conduct over 1,700 research programs for more than 94 federal and
- state agencies, 302 industry clients, and 9 foreign countries, valued
- at over $350 million. Our programs have created immediate needs for
- qualified Computer Science professionals.

- A major program for basic and applied research in the molecular
- sciences is underway at Battelle. Our current significant capability
- in scientific computing is being expanded to support the theoretical
- and experimental elements of this program. We are seeking researchers
- with expertise in parallel scientific computing technologies in the
- following areas:

- Performance Modeling and Machine Evaluation
-
- . Performance modeling of scientific applications on MIMD massively
- parallel computers; development of modeling methods and tools;
- evaluation of parallel algorithms, programming environments, and
- machines.

- . Requires skill and experience with internals of compilers and
- language translators; familiarity with computational chemistry
- methods.

- Operating System Development
-
- . Develop and evaluate enhancements to the communications software
- kernel of message-passing multicomputers; modify application
- programs to exploit communications enhancements.

- . Requires skill and experience with assembly language,
- communication hardware interfaces, and operating system
- internals.

- Application and Toolset Development
-
- . Assist application developers in evaluating and using
- experimental parallel programming environments; evaluate,
- develop, and maintain toolsets; identify, develop, and evaluate
- parallel numerical methods.

- . Requires skill and experience developing production quality
- programs; numerical analysis including linear algebra and PDE's.

- These openings all require an MS or PhD in Computer Science, with
- graduate work or 1 year experience in some computational science
- discipline, or PhD in Chemistry or Physics with BS or equivalent
- experience in Computer Science. Three years experience in parallel
- computing is desired.
