- DEC had demonstrated a neat wireless device at the last DECworld which was
- something like (from memory) 4" X 4" X 1/2", although I don't believe it's
- currently a real product yet. This is a different product than the MetroWave
- bridge, but may have also had a much smaller distance limitation. Does anyone
- else on the net remember any specs on this ? (our sales weenie had promised
- getting us some info while we are at DECworld, but thus far has not delivered
- anything in the way of proposed specs ... which may mean that its a far way
- from being a product).
-
- We had tested (with limited success) wireless LAN technology from Motorola
- called Altair, with tighter distance limitations (around hundered feet ?).
- However, I have been told that they have improved firmware, and now have some
- longer-distance line-of-sight equipment as well. The stuff we looked at had
- a 'base' module which ran about $10K which tapped into the LAN and supported
- up to 8 'remote' modules which ran about $2K each. Although this is much
- shorter distance than what the original poster had requested, it might be
- worth while investigating Motorola's longer distance offerings.
