- While I'm not positive about this I'm pretty sure that the first release isn't
- going to allow a shared queue system between the Alpha and VAX boxes. I think
- the main reason for this is that Alpha VMS is based mostly on one of the VMS
- 5.4 release levels with a smattering of features from later releases of VMS
- including some future major release of VMS (aka v6.0) and so they haven't put
- the new queue manager on it yet.
-
- In any event, your comments about the incompatability of images are correct.
- You will need to have different boot disks for the VAX and Alpha boxes, but you
- can still share UAF, Rightslist, and the other major databases not to mention
- the disk farm. You'll also need to have Alpha compatable images for any
- applications you wish to run on the Alpha platform with their own set of
- logicals to point to the correct directories.
-
- So, if you end up running one of these mixed hardware clusters, be prepared for
- a little extra system management overhead. :)
