That is because the old driver doesn't support multiple layers where the new
driver does.

The following are the configuration file to run The novell
requester,FTP Software's TCP/IP using ODINSUP.SYS provided by novell.
One of the other things I found helpful was the ODINSUP.TXT that was
on sjf-lwp.novell.com via FTP.

Notice above the Protocol Stack and the Protocol ODINSUP bind SMC
instead of SMC8000 this is a bug in the SMC driver and if it isn't
done then the driver will be unable to find the card.
