-
- Maybe I missed messages pertaining to troubles with the NFS-client and
- NFS-server with this package, possible too, that there are troubles with
- the DEC-side involved in the setup (we are still working on it, although
- there are no troubles among the DEC-Ultrix-machines mounting each other
- file-systems). Maybe someone knows an easy answer.
-
- 1)
-
- OS/2-NFS-client-troubles: XCOPYING tons of MB sometimes leads to kill
- the NFS-client with the following error-message:
-
- "Software diagnostic code 000D.
- NFSC: NFSCTL: Unknown error <99> !"
-
- Same thing happens if I try to mount a locally exported drive without
- having portmap started (by error). NFSCTL-screen:
-
- IBM TCP/IP OS/2 NFS Client Release 7.2 (c) Copyright IBM Corp. 1990
- Buffer size: 4096
- RPC timeout: 3 sec
- No. of retries: 10
- No. of Biods: 4
- Priority: class:4 level:1
- Parallel write requests: off
- Case sensitive comparisons: off
- NFS Control Program is running.
-
- 2)
-
- NFS-Server started on OS/2, mounting exported OS/2-drive from DEC-ultrix.
-
- ls works, copying with cp or accessing OS/2-files with unix-programs
- lead to troubles in OS/2-NFS-server not replying. The unix-side retries,
- occasionally files get thru to the Unix-side.
-
- The OS/2-NFSD-screen shows:
-
- IBM OS/2 NFS Server Version 1.0 (Mar 12 1992)
-
- NFS: File ownership set to uid ...., gid .....
- NFSD: Initialization complete. Server running.
- NFS<_nfsRead>: Can't send reply
- NFS<_nfsRead>: Can't send reply
- ... a couple of times the above message
-
-
- As we intend to backup all of our OS/2 machines via the Unix machine
- (it has an exabyte streamer) we would need the NFSD being stable. Unfortunate-
- ly, the IBM-version of TCP/IP does not have a tar supplied (which could be
- EA-aware). Does FTP's OS/2-version include it as is the case with the DOS
- version ? Does IBM intend to add a tar in the near future ?
-
- This whole backup-problem in our setup (our Unix-machines have all the
- needed devices) could very well leed us to use another's product which
- allows us to use the Unix-world for backup-purposes.
