- : Not quite. NCR uses OS/2 1.3 as the operating system in its automatic
- : teller machines. The operating system is evidently stripped down --
- : no Presentation Manager -- but boots directly from the ATM (possibly
- : with some sort of solid state "disk" -- I'm speculating a bit here).
- : ATM network links are often slow, so it really wouldn't make sense (in

- : computer.
- :
- : Incidently, that's Automatic Teller Machine, not Adobe Type Manager,
- : in the paragraph above.
-
- And not Asynchronous Transfer Mode either ;-). Sorry couldn't resist.

- : Hmmm... An interesting application.
- :
- : It is certainly doable, although this isn't exactly the proper forum
- : to discuss this implementation in any detail. It also depends on how
- : "elegant" you want this box to be. :-)
- :
- : I should point out that QNX might fit the bill here, but it all
- : depends on what applications you want to run. So you have some other
- : options, too.
-
- Correct. I could use QNX (which is implemented with this kind of app in
- view), but the last I heard, QNX costs $$$. I was just interested if
- OS/2 could do the same.
-
- Actually, I would like to get rid of WPS,PM, DOS and Windows Emulation.
- ie everything except the kernel ,OS DLLs, file system etc. If I put
- PROTSHELL=cmd.exe will this do it? Will the memory usage be indicative
- of the memory usage of the diskless workstation?
-
- Come to think of it. Would I be better off using OS/2 1.3 instead?
