- Well, my network is down, the server is gutted, the disks have
- been cleaned, an attempt to install OS/2 2.0 has been made, and
- I'm back to 1.3...without the ability to access my A: drive...
-
- I'm trying to switch from MS LAN Manager to IBM LAN Server 2.0.
-
- My current major .networking problem is the use of a 3Com 3C507TP
- Ethernet card. It is similar to the 3C503TP which (apparently)
- is supported by LAN Server, but my experience has been (with LAN
- Manager) that it will not run using the 3C503 drivers. (The
- 3C507TP is a 16-bit card.)
-
- So...I installed LAN Server with the 3C503 selected, then started
- (w)hacking at it. First I copied the .NIF and .OS2 files to the
- \IBMCOM\MACS directory. Then I changed the config.sys and the
- protocol.ini files to point to these drivers.
-
- The 3C507 driver does start to load (I see the banner.), but later
- I get an unrecognized keyword in protocol.ini error. I'm in the
- process of restoring the protocol.ini I used with MS LAN Man, but
- I'm not sure it will be that easy.
-
- IBM tech support wasn't any help. ("Well, if it were a token ring
- adapter I could lead you right through, but I don't know about
- Ethernet...") I've only got a couple of days to bring this back
- up before I run into severe political problems - so any advice will
- be appreciated. My next stop is 3Com.
-
- Thanks!
