- If you open large quantities of windows at once, you may find yourself
- getting an "out of memory" error, with plenty of space left on the swap
- volume.
-
- I don't think this is actually an out of memory condition. I've
- gotten them, and the display usually blanks with an error telling you
- that the swapper.dat partition is full. Instead, I'm pretty sure that
- the real reason is that you're using up all the window handles in the
- system. (Remember: each control, button, edit field, menu, etc, are
- all windows, and all get window handles.) This is a fault of the 16-bit
- GRE, and will go away when the 32-bit GRE is installed. I recall one
- developer running into this problem with an application that was
- creating a large number of windows. He got the beta 32-bit GRE and
- the problem went away.
