- Within a month IBM will Beta 32-bit ET4000 drivers, along with the 32-bit
- graphics engine. Since these drivers are generic ET4000, which manufacturer
- is not as important a consideration. (In the test labs they have Orchid IIs,
- STB Powergraph, Diamond Speedstar, Boca Research (older ones, they now use NCR
- chips instead of Tseng), Amdek, and a couple others. The biggest compatability
- problem is getting the SVGADATA.PMI file generated when the card is in the
- proper state to match the capabilities of the monitor (as far as refresh).
- Drivers for other chipsets will be coming, but timeframes are hard to guess.
- You can be sure the you will have Tseng ET4000 drivers soon, so that's what
- I'd recommend. The drivers will be 32-bit with seamless windows in all
- resolutions, and pallete management. Believe it or not, the 16 color drivers
- are on a later schedule, so the 256 color drivers will be released first.
- (so the higher speed of 16 colors will not be available immediately).
