  10. I thought I would pass the following information to owners of Gateway2000
  11. (or those contemplating purchase of a GW2000).  I recently received one
  12. of their 486DX2-50 EISA machines.  Originally, the sales droid told me 
  13. that the SCSI controller was an Adaptec 1742.  However, when the machine
  14. arrived, it had an UltraStor 24F instead.  From reading this newsgroup, I
  15. understood that the UltraStor would work with the generic driver provided
  16. by IBM.  Tech support at UltraStor confirmed this and added that performance
  17. would be degraded.  UltraStor was, however, working feverishly on the OS/2 2.0
  18. drivers, he assured me.  When I pressed him for details, he admitted that they
  19. have not reached the beta test stage.  Well, I decided that I did not want
  20. to wait and called tech support at Gateway.  After being on hold for about
  21. two minutes, I was connected to one of the tech support staff.  She said that
  22. I could have the Adaptec instead and it would arrive tomorrow or the next day,
  23. including all necessary software and instructions.  Pretty good service in my
  24. opinion.  Of course, I have no interest in Gateway2000, Adaptec, or UltraStor.
