- BK>- Is there such a thing ? I'm not talking about the multi $100, 4-or-8 port
- BK>- proprietary jobs that require special drivers, and are usually used for
- BK>- multi-user systems. I mean a regular rinkeydink COM card with a '16-bit'
- BK>- card edge that allows jumpering the IRQ up into the 9-15 region...
- BK>-
- BK>- A related thing I'm curious about... does the 16550 UART have a buffer
- BK>- only on the receive side, or is there one on the Tx side as well ?
- BK>- It seems almost too obvious to ask, but that would be a way to get around
- BK>- the 1k interrupt/second limitation...
- BK>-
- BK>- Perhaps, before long, there will be a 'C' release of that chip?

- BK>I went hunting for the same thing. In the Computer Shopper I found a few
- BK>places claiming to have such boards. I called a couple of them. USA
- BK>Electronics Inc. in Dallas, Tx has, so they say, 16 bit boards with
- BK>selectable interrupts. Their tech voice line is (214) 631-7800. They
- BK>told me I wanted a SIO264 (with 16550AFN UARTs) at $179.00 USD. They
- BK>have non-16550 versions as well. There were a few other places too.
- BK>This was the only source (The Computer Shopper) that had listings for

- BK>I'd be interested in what you find out and if you buy one how well it

- You should be able to find a special serial card that may be non-standard but
- have better throughput and be able to use the upper IRQs. If they have OS/2
- drivers (including DOS virtual drivers), you should be able to use it as though
- it was a standard COMM port (even in a DOS box).
