- Since we are swapping rumors...
-
- What I have heard is that the OS/2 3.0 will be a "portable" version of OS/2
- (just like NT before the name was changed). It will be available for the
- Intel-x86 platform.
-
- The idea of going to the RS-6000 platform requires a portable OS so OS/2
- 3.0 will probably be the first version that runs on top of it. IBM
- supposedly was also looking at swapping the current AIX kernel with the
- Mach kernel...
-
- Apple also recently announced that when (if) they release their next major
- system release, System 8.0, it will also have a micro-kernel.... Since IBM
- and Apple are working on an advanced next generation OS together, these
- things together leads to some interesting speculation.
-
- But, these are all rumors.... We will have to see if anything actually
- becomes reality.
