- Can someone please explain this statement:
-
- When installing auxiliary parallel port expansion cards, you need to
- ensure that they are configured to share interrupt level 7 (IRQ7).
- Not doing so will cause printing under OS/2 to function erratically.
-
- I found this statement in "OS/2 Tips and Techniques
- Version 1.1
- 4/20/92"
-
- I ask this because I recently added another parallel port to my computer. The
- directions for the card state that its interrupt is fixed at IRQ 7. I assumed
- that both ports should have different interrupts so I changed the interrupt on
- my I/O card from 7 to 5 (which, by default, has a base address of lpt2). The
- base address for the expansion card is lpt1.
-
- Everything seemed fine, both ports were recognized through DOS 5.0, but OS/2
- would not recognize lpt2 (none of my jobs would print and the port would time-
- out).
-
- If I am interpretting the above statement correctly, I should let both ports
- share IRQ7. I have been told, however, that this could cause a problem if I
- try to use both devices simultaneously.
-
- Can someone please explain/help me with this problem?
-
- Thanks,
- Mark K
