- Hi folks. I recently took advantage of the great deals on
- the current wave of high speed fax/modems and got a Zoom,
- which comes with a program called MTEZ. This is a combination
- modem/terminal emulator program and a fax receiver/sender
- program.
-
- I'm having a problem with the fax part and I recall seeing
- a long discussion on faxing under OS/2 here a couple of
- months ago. At the time, unfortunately, I didn't have any
- interest because I didn't have a fax modem, but now I do.
-
- The problem I've having (and it's a doozy) is that whenever
- I use the FAX portion of MTEZ, when I go to exit the program,
- it completely stops OS/2 with a Trap 000d. The program seems
- to work fine under standalone DOS, but in an OS/2 VDM, it
- just brings the whole system down (which, from my understanding
- of the concept of virtual machines and protected operating
- systems, isn't supposed to happen).
-
- Now, in rapid fire list format, here are my questions:
-
- 1. Does anyone else use MTEZ under OS/2 2.0? If so, is it
- possible to get the fax part to work?
-
- 2. Is my recollection that DOS fax programs in general are
- not suitable for OS/2 correct?
-
- 3. Considering the big deal made about how advanced OS/2 is
- because it protects DOS sessions from one another, how is it
- that one single program can kill the whole OS/2 system?
-
- 4. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if Windows NT does a
- better job of handling DOS fax programs?
-
- I appreciate any help you can give. Also, this subject wasn't
- in Tim's FAQ. Should it be?
-
- Todd.
