- OK - I've looked through the FAQ & various other files and still have
- a couple of questions leftover.
-
- First - here's my hardware setup...
- -386/40 DX (FOREX chipset, AMI BIOS, 8 Meg RAM)
- -Adaptec 1542b SCSI controller & Quantum 105LPS
- -SONY CDROM drive & proprietary SONY interface (with MSCDEX v2.20
- which requires SETVER.EXE under DOS 5.0)
- -SoundBlaster 1.0 sound card
-
- This drive works just fine under DOS 5.0 (with setver loaded), I loaded
- up OS/2 2.0GA the other nite (I just got this motherboard - so I feel I
- finally have the hardware required to run OS/2) I have been trying to get
- the CDROM drive to work from DOS under OS/2 since then. I tried to create
- a "DOS from Drive A:" with:
- device=d:\os2\mdos\fsfilter.sys
- device=\sony_cdu.sys
- device=\setver.exe
- (these are from memory - but basically what I thought were the minimal
- requirements to access the drive)
- my autoexec.bat has the mscdex line in it - when it runs it says
- "WRONG VERSION OF DOS" (or whatever - indicating that the SETVER.EXE is
- not being loaded properly). I even tried adding a line to the SESSION
- Settings for the DOS From Drive A Icon to set the DOS version for MSCDEX.EXE
- to DOS 4.00 - no luck. Now obviously I am making some stupid mistake here
- since I have seen posting from folks that have gotten this wot work...
- Any help would be appreciated...
-
- One other question - I have Microsoft Bookshelf for Windows - this requires
- either Windows 3.1 or Windows 3.0 with the multimedia extensions. The
- extensions did not come with the CD - how do I get them & load them into
- WINOS2 & how to I add support for the SONY CDROM under WINOS2???
-
- On another note - I am considering buying a SCSI CDROM drive (probably a
- Toshiba - since these are listed as being supported under OS/2 with the
- packaged drivers). Could anyone tell me whether this setup allows access to
- the CDROM disk from a DOS application (under OS/2), or, do I have to go through
- the same thing as above (creating a VMBOOT disk, buying the DOS CDROM drivers
- from Adaptec, etc...).
-
- -thanks
- chris
