-
- Most definitely. I even went on a course at IBM on the care and feeding
- of the beast (the OS/2 2.0 Implementation Workshop).
-
- RF>I have not pushed the Windows issue, since I have mostly OS/2 apps or

-
- That's just one of my beefs. There are several ways you can run Windows
- apps under OS/2 2.0. the highlights are:
-
- a) Run them in a separate screen group (as you do). This assigns all
- Windows apps to one VDM which runs modified Windows 3.0 code to implement
- the parameter checking of Windows 3.1. Unfortunately, the same old GDI of
- Windows 3.0 is employed to there is no performance enhancment and you get
- performance degradation based on OS/2 overhead to manage the VDM (thunking
- - 16-bit to 32-bit conversion).
-
- b) Run each Windows app in its own VDM. This means that each Windows app
- is totally protected from every other Windows app (and the system) but
- imposes far more memory and administration overhead than a).
-
- c) Run Windows in an OS/2 DOS VDM (open a DOS VDM and start Windows).
- Not exactly recommended and certainly not a commonplace way of running
- Windows apps.
-
- Option b) is the one intended to provide seamless Windows but in addition
- to the overhead imposed by that alternative, there are only a few drivers
- available that allow this in resolutions other than standard VGA.
-
- Either way, Windows performance under OS/2 2.0 appears to be quite
- substandard to running Windows apps under 3.1.
