  12. I used to have 'random' lockups at home...after 15 to 60
  13. minutes. Always when the disk was accessed. Couldn't even
  14. format with HPFS, locked up on some bad spots...LOCKED up
  15. os2 completely !
  16. So I went on changing disk, controller, ram, vga, serialcard
  17. and nothing helped. Well taking out the INTEL 387 DID in fact
  18. help some. Just before giving up...my machine, not os2 :-),
  19. I tried a little 16mhz sx card, and everything worked....
  20. (I had a 25MHZ opti chipset 386 DX) So I bought a new 25MHZ
  21. 386 DX mothercard, this took a cold reboot after the os2 logo :-)
  22. Now I have a 40MHZ AMD /opti /ami 386 DX and everything works
  23. great, even the old 4096 mfm disk could be formatted to HPFS.
  24. I have installed os2 on several selfmade clones the last year, and
  25. except for my own, there has been very little problems, yes ,even
  26. a westerndigital motherboard with everything built in and bios
  27. saying 1988 (?????) works (except internal error if booting dos from
  28. 1.2 MB B: drive, but I don't have to do that :-) Yes, the bios
  29. reports some very strange figures to programs like checkit also.)

  31. The moral:
  32. Borrow a new motherboard (and ram,HD,VGA) to see if it works when
  33. you swap them. By the way, in Norway you get a 16mhz sx for less than
  34. 200 us $, a 33 MHZ 486 for less than us $800, you should be able to
  35. get some working stuff for less than $1000 !
