- I have 8 megs, and things load quickly until we get to the Win-OS/2 world.
- I run a little utility that reports the size of my swapper.dat file, and
- I always notice that the default 4096k file I have set up gets bigger
- when I open most Win-OS/2 apps (possible exception: 0 other applications
- running). This suggests to me that "loading" WP4Win or WfWin involves
- double disk duty: reading material in and then swapping it out. Actual
- performance once loaded isn't bad, with a little bit of switching degradation
- if I've got more than a couple of other apps running (again, I attribute this
- to swapping overhead. Sounds like 8mB is slightly thin for fast Win-OS/2
- work (thoiugh not disasterous). . Dos and OS/2 boxes open and close
- quite quickly on my 486 box (an upgrade beyond 8mB involves swapping out
- 1mB SIMMS and replacing them with 4s [min=16mB = $500-700 :-( ], so I'm
- stuck with 8mB for a while. Recommendations with respect to tuning options
- appreciated (though I've played around with some).
